Ahead of Nordbygg 2026, we therefore took a step back to reflect on our own journey and where we are headed. Together with Bjarne Johansson, co-owner and head of technology and development, we delve into the insights, visions and technical force fields that shape SI's future. 

An industry in change

Building automation is in one of its most expansive phases ever. Digitalization is accelerating, energy prices are affecting all levels, and cybersecurity has become a central part of the technical infrastructure. For SI, these trends are not challenges, but benchmarks.

  – Digitalization is an obvious driving force. At the same time, complexity is increasing and we must stay one step ahead of it. Our ISO27001 certification in cybersecurity is an example of how we are preparing ourselves for the demands that are now coming to the industry. 

It's not just about following developments, but driving them. That's why software development is one of our core competencies today. most important strategic investments.

Energy efficiency is one of the industry's clearest trends, but for us it has always been a matter of course. A way of thinking. A principle.

  – The question should always be there: can we do this smarter? Can we think differently? says Bjarne.

SI Connect – your new colleague

One of our biggest investments right now is SI Connect, a platform that brings together functions, data and operational logic in one ecosystem.

The goal is clear: to create a property management system that is easy to understand, simple to 
manage and ready for the demands of the future. 

The platform is based on the principles we set back in 2008 when we started developing software: 

• openness 
• easy communication between systems 
• adaptation to future protocols 
• uncompromising security 

– SI Connect is a big step towards a more unified and transparent property management. Many customers have parallel systems that do not communicate. We want to change that – and SI Connect is our way to get there. 

For us, the platform is not just a new tool, it isis a new way of thinking about property management and what it can be.

Broad and deep expertise that is evident from

Technology creates opportunities, but it's people who make opportunities a reality. That's why we place great emphasis on being a workplace where both specialists and future talents feel they can grow, contribute and be themselves.

  – We want to be the best place to be. If you like automation, you've come to the right place. Interns and LIA students are important, and the collaboration with education programs means a lot. 

We want to build a culture where ideas are encouraged, where knowledge has a place, and where innovation is something that arises naturally – not through requirements, but through curiosity and opportunity. 

At the same time, our geographical presence is one of our greatest strengths. With 37 offices at the time of writing and several specialist companies, we create proximity to our customers and a real understanding of their everyday lives. This gives us both speed and flexibility. 

Bjarne sums it up: 

  – We have a lot of responsibility and drive out of the offices. If we create something central, it must add value, otherwise we won't implement it. 

It is precisely this balance between local freedom and common direction that allows us
can grow without losing its foothold.
