PLC stands for programmable logic controller and can be compared to a programmable computer used to control and automate industrial processes, machines and properties.
In building automation, a PLC unit is often referred to as a DUC (data under control). PLC units are used to control and monitor machinery and processes. They receive signals from sensors, process the information according to a programmed control system and send control signals to, for example, motors, valves or lights.
PLC systems are used in everything from building automation and the manufacturing industry to energy systems, as they are reliable, fast and easy to customise. By programming the logic, it is possible to effectively control complex processes, optimise performance and reduce energy consumption.
